A push, a half win and a half loss are different settlements. A push normally returns the stake under the stated market rules. A quarter-goal handicap splits the stake between two adjacent lines, so one part can be returned while the other wins or loses.
Whole and half lines establish the starting point
For a standard regulation-time Asian handicap, add the handicap to the selected team’s score difference. A whole-goal line can produce equality and a push. A half-goal line cannot equal an integer goal difference, so its ordinary score-based settlement has a win or a loss. Separate void rules can still apply.
Split a quarter line into two equal parts
| Selected team’s line | Half of the stake | Other half |
|---|---|---|
| −0.25 | 0 | −0.5 |
| +0.25 | 0 | +0.5 |
| −0.75 | −0.5 | −1 |
| +0.75 | +0.5 | +1 |
The minus sign and selected team matter. “0.75” without the sign and selection is not enough to settle a record. Check the actual market terms, including the match period, rather than relying only on a shorthand label.
A draw gives opposite outcomes at minus and plus 0.25
In a fictional 10-unit selection at −0.25, a draw returns the 5 units on handicap 0 and loses the 5 on −0.5: a half loss. At +0.25, a draw returns the 5 on 0 and wins the 5 on +0.5: a half win. Neither outcome is a full push.
A one-goal win at minus 0.75 is a half win
If the selected team wins by exactly one, the −0.5 half wins and the −1 half pushes. Using fictional decimal odds of 1.90 for a 10-unit stake, the winning half returns 5 × 1.90 = 9.5 units and the pushed half returns 5. Total return is 14.5 and net profit is 4.5 units.
At +0.75, a selected team losing by exactly one loses the +0.5 half and pushes the +1 half. For a 10-unit stake, total return is 5 and net result is −5 units. These examples exclude commission and other costs.
Read the record before counting its win rate
A platform may classify partial settlements separately or use a disclosed aggregation rule. Do not silently treat every half win as a full win or every refund as a defeat. State the denominator and handling of pending and void entries when comparing records.
A team can win the actual game while a selection on a larger negative handicap loses. Read the score, selected team, line, odds format and recorded status together. The handicap introduction covers the broader market; the odds guide explains the cash multiplier.
